CSK Coach Stephen Fleming Supports MS Dhoni, Highlights His Determination Despite Loss Against DC
After Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) defeat to Delhi Capitals in their latest IPL 2025 clash, head coach Stephen Fleming came forward to defend MS Dhoni, praising his commitment and intent on the field despite mounting criticism regarding his batting position and performance.
In the April 5th game, Dhoni came in at number 7 and played a composed innings of 30 runs off 26 deliveries. Some fans questioned why the legendary cricketer wasn’t promoted up the batting order. Addressing this, Fleming stated that Dhoni is carefully managing his workload, especially after undergoing a knee surgery in 2023, and his position in the batting lineup is decided based on match conditions and physical readiness.
Fleming also pushed back against the buzz about Dhoni’s retirement, saying it’s not his place to comment on such speculations. “He's still motivated and contributing. I’m enjoying the process of working with him," Fleming said.
The CSK coach emphasized that Dhoni remains central to the team's game plan and brings irreplaceable experience, particularly during pressure situations. Despite CSK’s recent setback, Fleming remains optimistic and pointed out that improved top-order performances are essential so that the middle and lower order—including Dhoni—can play with more freedom.
As the IPL season progresses, all eyes will remain on how Dhoni leads from the front both with the bat and in the dressing room.
